About

Built for the ten minutes before you grab the leash

MuffinBiter exists because of a small, specific problem: you're about to take your dog to the park, and you have no idea whether anyone will be there.

The problem with every other option

Dog owners already coordinate — over group texts, neighborhood apps, and a WhatsApp thread somebody's cousin started in 2019. Those work until they don't. They're noisy, they're invitation-only, and asking "anyone at the park at 4?" in a group of forty people has a social cost that stops most people from doing it more than once a month.

The apps that tried to solve this generally borrowed the dating-app shape: profiles, matching, swiping. That shape is wrong for dogs. It creates a rejection state where none needs to exist, it turns safety information into a beauty contest, and it requires a critical mass of users before it does anything at all.

The beacon

A beacon is a small idea with big consequences: you post where you're going and when, and anyone who's free joins. Nobody matches. Nobody accepts or declines. Nobody is rejected.

Because posting costs nothing and carries no social risk, people actually do it — which is what makes the product useful on day one, in a neighborhood with five users, rather than only after it's gone viral. And because a beacon points at a real, named, public park at a real time, it's anchored in something verifiable rather than in a feed.

What we deliberately left out

  • No swiping and no matching. Dogs aren't a catalog.
  • No open DMs. Chat exists inside a beacon and nowhere else.
  • No infinite feed. There's nothing here to scroll at midnight.
  • No ads and no data selling. Not now, not as a later monetization pivot.
  • No third-party trackers. The site you're reading loads no analytics scripts and sets no advertising cookies.

How it stays free

The core — posting, joining, chatting, browsing parks — is free and will stay that way. The whole thing runs on Cloudflare's edge, which means our costs scale with actual use rather than with a fleet of idle servers. People who want to support the project can become Founding Members. That's the entire business model, and if it ever changes, it won't change into advertising.

Where we are

Los Angeles, with 7 areas and every verified off-leash park loaded — Silver Lake to Long Beach, the Valley to the South Bay. LA is a hard first city on purpose: it's enormous, car-dependent, and its dog culture is intensely local. If the beacon works here, it works.

Say hello
